Musical sounds of Frank Sinatra and the entire era between the 1930s and 1950s came to life during a free outdoor concert July 24 at Tower Green in downtown Western Springs. The annual concert was greeted with warm weather, a few hundred community residents and local area fans.
Walking toward the concert was like swinging into 1946. The 18-member Grand Avenue Big Band performed to a nearly covered lawn filled with chairs, blankets, bubbles and tapping feet. Grandparents gazed nostalgically as many of their grandchildren danced to music that was new to them.
